Our World Class Universityy (WCU) program focuses on developing multiscale mechanical systems with broad applictions in energy, environment, materials, and medicine. Fourteen faculty memebers, including five international members are participating in this program. Two administrative staff memebers are supporting the program
As fundamental understanding of micro and nanoscale phenomena increased in recent decades, the need to understand and bridge macroscopic mechanical systems with smaller dimensions has become essential. At the same time, a variety of phenomena at different length scales and their physical interactions have become necessary in designing next generation of mechanical systems.
Our program brings together leading experts in various fields of research ranging from Biomedical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, and Mechanical Engineering to understand and implement multiscale mechanical system.
Our research approach is divided into two topics – Modeling/Design and Fabrication/Analysis. Research focuses on five major representative applications of energy, materials, environment, medicine, and NEMS / MEMS. Our program enables various approaches which will bridge and bring together emerging progress in nano, micro, and meso scale phenomena to designing macro scale mechanical systems.
The progress we make in our research and education is expected to enhance our understanding of multiscale design and manufacturing and thus improve the quality of life.
